On January 26, 2022 the OPO received an online complaint.
The complainant alleges:
i got in a car accident in a residential neighborhood.
The cars were not blocking traffic, and i was very anxious as it was my first experience in an
accident. when officer
showed up, he was instantly rude off the bat. before introductions or
checking on me or the other people involved, he expressed anger that the cars had not been moved
to the side of the road. I explained that i was under the impression to leave my car put, as it was
not blocking traffic and i wasn’t aware of the extent of the damage. he ignored my response and
kept repeating himself, getting ruder each time. when i got in my car to move it i drove over lots
of broken glass, and the pieces flew everywhere, hitting the officer and my boyfriend in the
process. it was a very nerve racking experience for me, and officer
did not once ask to see
how i was doing or apologize for his rude behavior even though i was nothing but polite and
cooperative. as this was my first personal experience with an austin police officer, i was extremely
disappointed and upset after the way he spoke down on me and offered the bare minimum of
service. he appeared very inconvenienced to be there and to be answering my questions about the
process. I am not happy at all with this experience, and expected much more from the officer who
i was expecting to help me through a very unpleasant and stressful experience.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to determine
if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service Rules, and Municipal
Civil Service Rules.
